Help choosing a laptop for World of Warcraft with maximum performance
I need to know if the graphics card and CPU I have will let me run WoW with all settings fully enabled at 1440p while maintaining at least 120fps, especially during raids. Also, what’s the best CPU choice for this workload? Should I compare a 12th Gen i9 with a 3080 TI against a 13th Gen i9 and a 4070? And do I expect a 3080 TI or 4070 to keep me at 120fps in that setting, or would a 4080 be needed? Thanks for your feedback.
i9 or a Ryzen 9, though the e-cores don't really help WoW much.
Curious point about the GPUs. I'm keen to compare laptops rather than focusing on the GPUs themselves, since cooling and power needs can differ greatly. They offer a broad operating range, leaving it up to the laptop manufacturer to choose the heatsink and power settings.
Uncertain about why 120fps is required for WoW either, and whether you're playing classic or retail. The differences will become more noticeable over time. My low-end laptop runs classic at about 65fps with setting "7," which goes up to 10. Retail runs around 60fps on settings 3-4, depending on liquid/shadow detail. I don’t have the GPU off hand—I’m using a Chromebook, but it’s a pretty weak one.
It's been a while since I played WoW, but I haven't faced major FPS problems with a good CPU and GPU setup.
I have an i7-950, i7-4770k, and GTX580, GTX980, GTX1080.
If I recall correctly, Cataclysm goes to Draenor.
You probably won't be let down by any top-tier CPU and one of these GPUs.
I currently have a 10th Gen i9 + RTX 2080 Super Max-Q. It is decent, but I FPS gets below 120 in cities. RAIDs require settings to be lowered.
