HELP!!!
I've been using my gaming setup for some time now and noticed a problem where the whole system would shut down instantly. The motherboard and RAM lights stay on, and the PC won't restart unless I power it off completely and then turn it back on. It seems like an overheating issue, but after checking with the Hardware Monitor, I didn’t see any readings exceeding 85 degrees under load. My rig has a 5900x Rtx 3070, 32GB DDR4, 850W Corsair PSU, and a Samsung M.2 1TB SSD.
Additionally, my top guess for the most likely cause is probably something simple like a corrupted file. It could be worth trying to refresh the operating system. This is something inexpensive and straightforward, and it might actually help. Although it's not very likely, it's possible you have a damaged file somewhere.
The motherboard is an X570 Asus Prime. I believe it connects to the chipset beneath the built-in fan and sits right next to the GPU, possibly overlapping with a large 3070 chipset. Does that clarify things?
Unlikely scenario. The chipset doesn’t reach high temperatures unless you’re handling heavy data moves through it, such as copying large files via NVMe drives connected through it. It warms up enough to require a fan during transfers, though most boards don’t need the fan running continuously. You might want to check HWiNFO64 for details, but it’s probably not the main issue. Avoid using HWMonitor—it’s known to give inaccurate readings sometimes. The X570 line includes models like Prime-Pro, Prime-P, and there are multiple versions; identifying the exact model is important.
I don’t believe the issue lies there, but if you truly think external heating is the cause (which I question) you might try a heat shield. Aluminum foil works well as one. It conducts heat too, so handle it carefully. Without any, you can purchase a pack of chewing gum. The shiny side is aluminum and the paper side offers a solid insulating layer—wood isn’t great for this. You could even secure it with old gum pieces. Chewing gum isn’t a good conductor either. If the problem persists, consider using a vaned heat sink for the chip. Alternatively, if you find one nearby, it’s another viable choice.
Two recent bios versions are available for that board. I own a setup similar (5900X + Prime X570-P + 32GB + RX 5700XT) which includes a fan cover. The chipset fan seems misconfigured, often making it loud, so it likely isn't the main problem. Are you using an Asus Armory Crate? Do you connect one piggy tail cable for the GPU or two separate ones?
