This applies just to users with a genuine Windows version and a fully activated system (though that’s more of a guideline than a rule). Product keys are usually restricted to a single PC, except for those that support multiple devices.

Your latest Windows version should work without issues, but you might still see warnings about fake keys if you activate it through updates. Previous versions often had similar concerns. Using a key found online is common due to mixed communications from Microsoft about free access.

The Windows key is usable just once. If you already have Windows 7 or 8.1, you can get a free upgrade to Windows 10.
