My computer came with a standard Toshiba M.2 NVMe SSD rated B+M. I also purchased another M.2 SSD, but it seems to be an M type only. I'm wondering if that could be the reason my PC won't boot with it. I've been searching online for a B+M M.2 SSD that isn't SATA and haven't found any matches.

An SSD can only be either M or B, not both. The slot will display B+M if applicable.

All B+M SSDs connect via SATA. Models with M keys support NVMe.

That's what I understood. Do you know why the laptop came with two ports and chose NVMe over SATA?

It's an M MSSD, you can notice the 'M' logo.

I now have two slots and it confirms you have an NVMe drive on the SSD.

The B key is located immediately above the M key.

They caused some mix-up with their naming. You're dealing with an 'B+M' slot and 'B' and 'M' SSDs—it all fits together. It's like having a '16x' PCIe slot but only supporting x4, which is pretty confusing.

It appears similar yet indicates NVMe is present.
