Are you asking about the tower versus the desktop? If the desktop has a slim look, current low-profile coolers won't offer much improvement over what's already there.

The tube section of the heat sink isn't necessary. You can remove it when switching to a different case. What's the updated case so we can recommend an improved cooler?
