Hello, I recently adjusted my CPU multiplier for the I3 4170 and was currently at *8. Every time I increase it by one, the BIOS doesn't appear and the system won't boot into Windows. The PC starts but doesn't show Windows. After resetting the battery, I changed the multiplier back to *8 and everything functions properly. I also increased the voltage slightly to 1.81V, but it still doesn't boot to the Windows page. I'm hoping my PC can reach a *37 multiplier, which is the maximum. Right now it's running at 0.717MHZ and I'd like it to reach 3.699MHZ. My PSU is around 520W and I have an AMD Radeon 5570. Ordered a 750 Ti. Anyone has any advice or solutions? Thanks a lot.

i3 cannot be unlocked except by obtaining a K CPU hyperthreading. Unless you upgrade, your i3 already offers plenty of powerful performance. You don’t need to interfere with them—they’re quite fine as they are. Just ensure you have the correct RAM, and the 13 hyperthreading will make good use of it.

Straightforward, if it isn't a "K" processor running on an overclockable MB, the multiplier is locked and it cannot be improved further.

But it's unclear why the multiplier increases so much; it would happen if you could choose that setting. Additionally, the Intel Pentium G... can be overclocked up to 4.3 ghz, though it lacks a K.

The Pentium lacks hypertreading yet it's unlocked and suitable for overclocking, whereas the i3 has hypertreading but remains locked.

i3 cannot be unlocked except by obtaining a K CPU hyperthreading. Unless you get a K CPU, your i3 already has plenty of powerful grunt. You don’t need to interfere with them; i3 is pretty good at handling it. It has the right amount of RAM, and the 13 hyperthreading will make good use of it.
