Hello, I’m trying to figure out how to tell the difference between a game that relies more on the CPU or one that uses the GPU heavily. Is there a clear way to identify which one it is? Thanks.

CPU-intensive titles usually involve many simultaneous operations. Strategy games with AI and pathfinding scripts for numerous units efficiently consume processing power. Notable CPU-heavy titles include ARMA 3, MS Flight Simulator X, GTA V, The Witcher 3, Civ 5, Starcraft 2, Rise of the Tomb Raider, Crysis 3, and Ark. Most modern RTS, RPG, and open-world games fall into this category. On the other hand, GPU-heavy titles are The Witcher 3, RooTR, GTA V, Crysis 3, Project CARS, Shadow of Mordor, BF 4, and Batman Arkham Knight. Understanding whether a game relies more on CPU or GPU is about knowing their roles—CPU manages core logic and calculations, such as collision detection and damage computation, while the GPU handles rendering tasks like displaying images, positioning objects, and applying visual effects. These effects include SFX in movies, enhancing colors, smoothing edges, blurring backgrounds, and adding motion blur. All this processing demands time, and insufficient GPU power can lead to poor performance. Watching videos on GPUs and CPUs, such as "CPU Cores for Gaming," can provide useful insights.

Yes, reducing the game setting can also help lower CPU usage.

Display quality. Does it also increase CPU usage during gameplay?

The decision will certainly influence both CPU and GPU performance. Larger resolutions tend to affect the GPU more than the CPU, though it does impact the CPU as well. Reducing resolution can improve CPU efficiency if it becomes a bottleneck.
