I have no idea if its something I'm doing wrong or if its something with the pc. Pre re-paste the machine would idle at around 60-80C and while I don't have any SS's of the OCCT test from the pre-paste the machine would hit 100C instantly and not draw more than 40watts of power while under load. I repasted today, fresh paste, cleaned the dust off a dust-less cooler because the machine is less than a month old, and now the machine will idle at around 40-60C which is definitely an improvement but I'm not sure if this is where it should be? It's not my first time building a PC, its my second, but my first PC i have had no issues with the temps and I have had zero issues in the two years of owning it. No crashing, no BSODs, no random freezups, hell even windows hasn't caused me any issues (knocking on wood profusely currently). While the temps have certainly improved since the repaste (it seems to match my other air cooled machine while idle), I can't help but feel like something is going wrong when it comes to under load still. The power draw has improved, going from drawing 40watts to 80-90watts, but my machine running a CPU from January of 2022 still seems to perform significantly better underload. Additionally, the new machine will hit 100c in the OCCT stress test instantly where as Ol' Reliable will sit in the 60-80c range under heavy load, be it at around 100-120 watts as well but that's due to me limiting it to that. Ol' Reliable has a 12700k, whereas this stupid doo doo head has a 14700kf and seems to hate my guts. I will say they are running different CPU coolers. Ol' Reliable is running a Noctua NH-D15 chromax.Black where as doo doo head is running a Dark Rock Pro 5 , are these coolers that different or does my issue lie elsewhere? Any insight here would be much appreciated. Editing real quick to also mention that Ol' Reliable is also managing better and more stable temps with just ONE fan on the cooler, Doo Doo Head over here has both the fans on the cooler and your typical single rear exhaust fan right next to the Dark Rock Pro 5 and yet nothing I do seems to satisfy it. Is it the CPU? Is that where everything is going wrong? Attached are pictures of the OCCT test with HWINFO next to it.

The room temperature is still quite high due to the CPU's power consumption, especially during heavy use. The Dark rock pro5 operates near its maximum capacity in this scenario, but when idle it should typically be between 35-55°C (adjusting for other processes and ambient conditions). Most modern CPUs run around 40-55°C at idle with an air cooler. Are you running the fan at full speed?

The room temperature is about 21-22°C, and the system has stabilized after a short rest. Under load it’s still a concern. Swapping your Dark Rock Pro 5 for the Noctua NH-D15 in Ol'Reliable could help, especially since the coolers are similar.

Also noted, fan speed remains on auto but is configured for Dark Rock's "performance" mode rather than "quiet." It seems like swapping the 14700kf for a 12700k might change things, so I'm considering that move.

I manage fans through an app and also adjust them directly for my air cooler. Usually I set it to 50% when idle, then raise it to 75-100% during heavy tasks like gaming or video rendering. It might help to follow this path and check if you achieve the desired performance. You might need to undervolt and thoroughly review the BIOS settings to ensure it isn’t drawing excessive voltage.

It turned out the problem was just the cooler. I understand this is quite late for a reply, but I’ve been placing orders for an NH-D15 and setting it up over the past few days. Running a stress test now shows "Doo doo head" dropping from 91Watts at 100°C to 180-190Watts at 70°C at 5.5MHz. I wasn’t expecting a cooler to have such a noticeable impact, especially given their similar size and the extra fan on the dark rock. Thanks again for your assistance—appreciate it!
