Heat issue with the processor
Heat issue with the processor
I updated the PC cases and used adapters to conceal the cables from the cooler’s water block. The system would sometimes shut down, but after a few attempts it stabilized. Once I removed the adapters, the computer ran smoothly without any crashes. Playing D2 was stable with no issues. I’m concerned about possible long-term damage or reduced lifespan of my CPU. It seems to be working well now that the extensions are gone. My assumption is that the fan extensions may not have been compatible. The PC shut down quickly, but I’m worried about permanent harm.
Many safety features are included to avoid lasting harm. To reassure you, I wouldn't recommend attempting this... but I accidentally installed it on a used machine I was preparing for sale on Craigslist. When I powered it up and left it on for an hour, I noticed I hadn't added a heat sink to the CPU at all! I unplugged it immediately and thought I'd burned a chip. After installing a heat sink and installing Windows, I ran AIDA64 for 24 hours—no problems detected, thermal performance was solid. The lesson? The CPU enters a low-power mode, reduces clock speed to protect itself, and eventually shuts down. So, you can be confident it won’t cause permanent damage. It's odd the extension cords didn't work, but they functioned fine without them.
