Headphones produce poor audio on Windows 11.
I previously owned a bulky, low-quality eBay copy of a headset and was searching for an upgrade. I switched to a HyperX Cloud Wireless 3, but it sounded muffled and the audio quality didn’t improve much. When I returned it because it wasn’t working well, the price difference between my old Rinky Dink model and this new one was still significant. Now I own an Arctis Nova 7, which performs similarly in terms of sound clarity for both talking and videos. While both headsets handled voice and YouTube content well, gaming audio remained poor—especially when launching games like Bandit’s Gunshots from Risk of Rain 2 or general gameplay. Even enabling the sound on the Steelseries app didn’t help. I’m looking for a better solution if anyone knows why those inexpensive Chinese-made earbuds could deliver decent game audio despite their low price.
Could you find some affordable apple earbuds? Or are there other options where you can connect a headphone to check the audio quality? These headsets might give you a muddy gaming bass, so if you're not used to it, you might want to stick with something more balanced. The same issue I dislike with the Arctic 7, but I really like my budget wired Arctic 3 for a cleaner sound with less aggressive bass.
It seems the muddy bass might be due to your budget headphones, but other models you've used worked. You can check if the app offers options to improve audio quality or adjust settings. Otherwise, you may need to accept the sound as it is.
They’re designed for this purpose. You simply need to purchase another type of headset! Gamers who prefer the dt770 with a microphone as a bundle are in luck—it’s still top-notch sound quality. Most gaming headsets tend to emphasize bass heavily, which is why some people choose regular headphones and add their own mic instead.
They are accurate and verified! It’s typical to find these in music and recording studios. I purchased my own DT770s more than 20 years ago and they continue to function perfectly. I also use an external DAC and connect the DT770s through a separate amplifier, but I prefer my SteelSeries Arctis Pro for gaming and everyday tasks—it offers great noise cancellation.
They're widely used in studios for voice and recording because they perform exceptionally well. This isn't the full picture. Just because you're not in a studio doesn't diminish their value. They work great for gaming too and offer excellent comfort. I don't like Skullcandy—they're often overhyped compared to truly solid headphones.
Skullcandy stands out as the pinnacle of intense deep bass, which is precisely what many people seek to steer clear of. Yet, they deliver outstanding results!
