If the electrical tape balls are working there is no further need to worry about it...... BUT taking a piece of rubber such as a countertop mat and trimming/shaping it to the case is probrably the best solution for looks. Trim it to the case where the board would go, make your holes in the mat for the board mounting standoffs/screw holes to be used, then lay it in to make sure it's right and then you can glue it in for a permenant fix.
