I acquired a fairly affordable KVM switch for home use, but after installation, my laptop (MSI GP 66 Leopard) only outputs via HDMI. The switch only accepts DP inputs. I attempted to use HDMI to DP cables, though the directionality is reversed—signal flows from DP to HDMI, even when connecting directly from PC to monitor. Does anyone know if there are adapters or cables that can transmit in the opposite way? I’m hoping this isn’t a waste of money.
The device needs an active converter, such as the one linked above. This is because a direct HDMI to DP connection isn't possible; instead, the adapter must perform an active transformation using power. The included Cable Matters cable features a USB port to supply that necessary energy.
