HDDs occasionally reduce speed on Windows 10
Hi, Your drives have become noticeably sluggish intermittently. SMART and extended tests completed without issues. The slowdown appears sporadic. Task manager shows minimal usage or almost none, but you notice activity while idle. No viruses detected. Could Windows 10 be the cause? Might it help to adjust registry settings or disable certain services? The problem affects both external and internal drives. RAM is fine. Frequent use of Use IDM and FDM also seems to trigger the issue. Any suggestions?
Verify if it's the HDD-related issue—it might be coil whine sounds similar to HDD operation. For the performance drop, ensure all drivers are up to date, covering chipset, SATA controller, graphics card, audio, and other components.
You're checking if the Windows update drivers, especially the SATA controller, might be the cause. The issue seems linked to HDD activity—slow copying/writing when the drive is busy. Switching to manufacturer drivers could help. Let me know if you need further guidance.
It might be fixed in the background. Or a Windows update could be needed.
