Hey everyone, I've been trying this all night and nothing seems to work. My motherboard is an Asus Tuf z590 with Wi-Fi, but the manual says m.2_2 blocks the SATA 2 slot, while m.2_3 blocks 5/6 slots. I tried connecting the HDD via SATA cable—first it worked on m.2_3, then not at all. I thought switching to m.2_1 might help, but I'm not sure. This drive holds my important files and media; it just won't appear. I've checked Disk Management, run DiskPart, and used Device Manager, but nothing changes. Please help me get this resolved quickly. Thanks! Swag

Do you have M.2 drives in the first two slots available?

You checked which ports are active with M.2 devices and thought about upgrading your BIOS, since newer releases might resolve the problem.

Ensure the hard drive is powered properly, not just the data cable. Verify that SATA ports are activated in the BIOS. Consider taking out the third M.2 slot and connecting the drive to ports 5 or 6 to test functionality. If it fails, the issue might be with the drive itself.

I would install the hard drive on SATA 0 or SATA 1 to check its functionality.

Motherboard: Asus TUF Z590 Wifi GPU: RTX 3060 Ti CPU: Intel i7 11700K RAM: Pny XLR8 16x16 + 8x8 (48gb total) Power Supply: Super Flower Leadex III 850w I possess three SSDs, one for the C drive and the other two for E and F drives, used for games etc.; my D drive was reserved for documents and videos (this is the HDD that vanished). All M.2 slots are occupied by my SSDs, as noted in the manual—2,5,6 are turned off when using m.2_2 and m.2_3.

I see, but if 3-4 isn't helping then I'm not sure why 1 will work. I don't have a SATA 0, so I'll try it tomorrow.

It functioned perfectly yesterday. The device was linked to the SATA_5 port. After realizing it wasn’t working, I switched the connection to SATA_4 and then SATA_3. There’s no explanation for why the drive wouldn’t receive power. I plan to try SATA_1 later to check if that resolves the issue, but I’m unsure it will make a difference.

I might attempt to modify the BIOS, though I'm uncertain if an update is necessary, so I'll proceed.

Check your BIOS version by launching command prompt and typing "wmic bios get smbiosbiosversion". This method works on your PC.
