HDD troubles
Hello! I recently upgraded to a new PC with a Ryzen 5600X, RTX 3060, 16GB RAM, and a 500GB NVMe SSD. I tried moving the HDD from my old PC to the new one, but I encountered an error 0xc00000e when selecting the boot drive. The old PC boots fine with Windows 10, but now it’s acting strange. I’m wondering how to resolve this without formatting anything. Updated on December 14, 2022 by ukamata
Is there any component on the new SSD? Can you try booting from the HDD in the updated system while the SSD is disconnected?
The specifications of the old PC included a particular processor, RAM capacity, storage type, and graphics capabilities.
The BIOS of the older PC was in standard "legacy" mode. If the previous Windows installation used legacy mode and the current BIOS is UEFI, you could encounter boot failures.
Adjust the BIOS to match the installation OS format (UEFI or legacy). If this isn't possible, a reformat might be necessary. But I'm open to being mistaken—don't rely solely on my confirmation.
Could be the solution you're looking for. This guide explains how to upgrade from legacy to UAEFI without reinstalling Windows 10.
Set up Windows on the NVMe drive first, then connect the HDD afterward. Afterward, verify it boots from the SSD in BIOS and ensure you can transfer all data successfully.
