HDD Installation Issues Reported System is experiencing poor health after recent hard drive installation.
Yesterday I purchased the "Seagate HDD 3.5 2TB" and installed it into my drive bay. After connecting the SATA data and power cables, I formatted the disk and planned to move roughly 300GB from my SSD to this new HDD. During the transfer, the drive slowed dramatically to zero write speed per second. This seemed unusual because the new drive had been running with a health score of 44% even though it hadn’t been powered on for days. Someone could help me understand what’s happening? I don't know if it affects that model but there is a scam going around where SMART data can be reset on some Seagate drives to make used ones look like new. Post a screenshot of the full output from CrystalDiskInfo could be helpful. If you can get similar off Sentinel that could do. If it was bought new from a proper computer store, try RMA. If it was bought "new" from a marketplace, consider what protections they offer to see if you can return. If neither of those are possible for whatever reason, move whatever data you want to keep off it again as following will wipe the drive. Do a full surface read over the disk. Then do a full surface write over the disk, and following that a full surface read again. Then check the status.
Seatools states that the tests—short self test, extended self test, and conveyance self test—are all available from HD Sentinel. The review notes they recently purchased a Barracuda and it's fully functional. Edited July 5, 2025 by leclod.
It seems the HDD has been out of commission for a long time. The tests reveal very slow performance—about 0.22 ms—which is unexpected. The file explorer reports near zero speed (0.00kb/s) while the RMA process is underway. The store I bought it from only replies on weekdays, just like most businesses.
Additionally, upon initial setup of Hard Disk Sentinel, the drive displayed 88% Health, then dropped to 56% five minutes later, followed by 44% after ten minutes, and currently stands at 36%. This trend appears unusual, and it hasn't been an issue I've faced before.
