Having Issues Wiping Hard Drive
I changed the hard drive to an SSD yesterday and am attempting to erase the old one to free up space. I installed DBAN on a USB stick but when I try to boot from it after setting it as the first boot option in my BIOS, Windows loads instead. Could there be an issue with the setup or the drive? My laptop is an ASUS Tuf Gaming FX504-GD with an Intel Core i5 8300H and 8GB RAM, GTX 1050. Also, any free alternatives to DBAN that don’t require a bootable USB would be helpful.
Check the BIOS settings and set the boot sequence so the SSD comes before the traditional hard drive. You might be able to exclude the mechanical drive entirely from the boot list. Avoid using DBAN; instead, download the WD Dashboard, choose your storage device, and run ERASE at the provided link. This tool is developed by WD and should work with any hard drive.
