I just received a free PC that’s much older than me. It doesn’t come with an operating system. At first, I considered Linux Mint XCFE since it works well on systems with only 3GB of RAM. But then I wondered how I’d be able to use the USB drive without any OS installed! What should I do? Sad(

Are you trying to create the thumb drive installer? You could use another person's computer for that.

You need an additional computer to generate a bootable USB for installing the operating system on the target device.

I also have another computer with good specs listed in my profile. I just need to figure out how to create a bootable USB drive.

Consider the portable option if you need flexibility, or go with the standard version for a complete setup. Once you've downloaded the app, follow the on-screen instructions to set up Linux Mint OS.

Follow the recommended guidelines. Obtain the ISO for your chosen operating system (such as Linux Mint XCFE at the provided link), and use Rufus to transfer it to the USB drive.

It seems you're wondering about the purpose of verifying something from the official site and whether it's essential. Also, you're asking about installing the ISO, which can be confusing. Let me clarify these points for you.

Launch Rufus and then proceed with the steps (a "Select" option should appear somewhere)
