This refers to a basic loom placed over the cables to organize them neatly. There is no specific reason mentioned about using it inside the computer.

Besides trapping dust within the mesh and damaging its appearance (and requiring cleaning afterward), there are no problems with its use.

I have a few thermaltake power supplies that used it. It does act like a dust magnet if you have a lot of air flow in the case, but otherwise is just fine.

That's correct! I'm aiming to skip extensions and opt for a sleeve instead.

I sewed an old Seasonic PSU with exposed wires using Megamide. Simple enough when you match the diameter, but otherwise it could get stuck on SATA or Molex connectors. It's straightforward to pull out the open weave from sharp corners inside a computer case and cut a few strands. I've also applied it to organize cable looms in 19 inch rack builds.
