Have you received a new Windows license?
I’ll keep it brief. I plan to upgrade my CPU, motherboard, and RAM (Skylake) and will list the new system in my signature. Originally, I bought Windows 8.1 OEM, then upgraded to Windows 10 for free. I’m wondering if I need a new Windows license each time I replace these components. Some users say they can contact Microsoft to deactivate Windows on the old machine. Any suggestions or workarounds would be appreciated. Thanks!
If you alter the system Windows will shut down and you must contact Microsoft to resolve the issue, that's the sole official method without needing to purchase a new license. --Edit-- However, it's an OEM license that can't be transferred and isn't compatible with systems outside its original purpose.
I haven't used those sites before, but I'm curious about their reputation for buying Windows licenses. What are your thoughts on their reliability?
No problem at all. There aren't many discussions around here, and you might want to explore those threads.
It’s not advised; there’s no assurance you’re obtaining a genuine license from any other than Microsoft.
The upcoming USB release of Windows 10 is expected soon. It could be a great alternative to downloading the full install media. If you're eager, joining the Windows Insider program might be worth it. You'll receive Windows 10 for free as long as you remain enrolled. This gives you access to the newest builds as they launch, but you must stay current. Microsoft requests feedback on certain features, which you should complete according to the license terms. It's a compelling option if you're willing to test new versions. Free access comes with the condition of providing input and participating in beta testing. Updates are frequent, so you'll need to keep your system current each time a new build is released. The latest official version is Build 10240, while the Insider Preview currently stands at 10525. New features and known issues are detailed here: https://blogs.windows.com/bloggingwindow...ild-10525/
