*sigh* there were 3 mass effect titles before the new one coming out this year... But it looks like you should just be able to jump in so I don't think it's necessary but they are great games to play so it's entirely up to you

Refers to the initial three points. Not required based on prior information.

Only two were perfect, then try three, and the pattern continues—one was okay.

They’re not essential, yet the games cost little and offer solid play. The story, by contrast, stays in my Tell Tales bin—choosing now means the same outcome later.

You don't have to play them ahead of Andromeda. The story of Andromeda could unfold 600 years after the main trilogy, though the characters from Andromeda departed the Milky Way before the events of the first game. Still, the initial three games are excellent and definitely worth getting.

It didn't last long. Back then it was quite impressive.

Not really. My Andromeda story is quite different from the Shepard series, but to grasp the excitement you need to experience it firsthand. Or at least understand what happens.

The remaining three titles were excellent. You might want to grab ME2 for free on Origin now, and the trilogy costs just $29.99.
