Hey everyone, I'm thinking about switching to a Powerline Adapter since installing a physical Ethernet link isn't practical here. The hardwood floors and lack of space make running cables tricky, and I'm weighing the pros and cons of going that route versus hiring someone. I've had mixed experiences with older adapters—my Netgear one from a couple years ago didn’t perform well, so I’m cautious. I want something reliable for around 800 Mbps, not the high speeds you get with fiber. Any suggestions on top models? Also, what are the typical trade-offs compared to a standard Ethernet cable? Thanks!

My latest try with powerline Ethernet happened three years back. It was terrible—far below advertised speeds. Less than 100 megabits per second and the delays were unacceptable. Maybe the wiring or setup was the issue, but from what I've heard, it's not uncommon for these types of solutions to underperform.

Everything sucks compared to a long ethernet cable, nothing else is going to reach 800Mbit consistently, absolute top end WiFi kit might be able to reach that speed but there is no guarantee it will do it consistently, unlike a cable where it will "just work".
