Have trouble with your RX 6600 after overclocking without changing the voltage?
I attempted to increase the overclock of my new RX 6600 using straightforward OC instructions (gradually raising the clock in MSI Afterburner, followed by stress tests after each step). The results were stable from 2684mhz to 2810mhz without any issues in both MSI Kombustor and 3DMark tests (Time Spy and Fire Strike Extreme). I then resumed using the PC for other tasks before lowering the clock back down temporarily. During testing, temperatures reached up to 70°C.
Afterward, I played a game and experienced significant stuttering. The Steam FPS counter displayed normal values, but the camera freezing was noticeable (even though the counter didn’t react). All Afterburner configurations returned to their original settings.
I tried another less intensive game, which performed about 99% normally with occasional minor stuttering. I also attempted a more demanding game that should have worked on Intel HD graphics (osu!), but it was unplayable—only 10fps and the cursor freezing every half second. I adjusted settings without success.
My troubleshooting steps included:
- Restarting the computer (no improvement)
- Reinstalling drivers normally (no effect)
- Deleting MSI Afterburner and reinstalling drivers (resolved issues temporarily)
- Using DDU in Safe Mode to delete and reinstall drivers (fixed problems for several hours)
- Deleting drivers via DDU in Safe Mode again, then reinstalling a different driver version (no improvement)
In summary, DDU worked briefly but has stopped functioning now. I considered testing the card on another PC or performing a full Windows reinstall if needed. I’m still unsure what caused the issues and hope someone can help identify any mistakes in the overclock process.
None of your configurations should affect the system after a restart following uninstallation of afterburner, as these are software settings not saved in BIOS when the program isn't active. It looks like you're facing more serious problems. I'd recommend reinstalling Windows and refraining from overclocking the 6600, since it might not provide any real benefit on that card—perhaps only a slight improvement of around 5% in FPS.
