Have trouble with RAM? Let me know!
Your prebuilt Lenovo PC has a 2933MHz CL19 RAM module. You're looking to upgrade it with another 8GB stick, and here are your questions clarified:
1. You can use other 2933MHz modules, but ensure they match the same CAS latency (CL19). Closer speeds like CL22 are fine, but slower rates may not be supported. Stick to the same frequency for best compatibility.
2. Upgrading to higher speeds like 3000MHz or 3200MHz is possible, but verify compatibility with your motherboard and CPU. Higher speeds often require better power delivery and may need a compatible RAM controller chipset.
Check your CPU-Z screenshot for exact specs and consider consulting the motherboard manual or manufacturer guidelines. Good luck with your upgrade!
Aim for matching the exact same performance as the memory IC version currently installed. If that's unattainable, focus on achieving comparable speeds. Combining different types of RAM is generally discouraged, though the chances of failure are minimal. The system will simply run at the pace of the least efficient RAM module.
Consider getting the same components using the same RAM module, but that's usually not feasible. Check out the thaiphoon burner to see your RAM type, then look for RAM with that exact type. If you can't find it, other compatible chips should also work.
There are some RAM modules available that perform better than SK Hynix. I suggest replacing your current RAM with a new kit for your device. Look for options with two modules, around 3000, but keep in mind you might be able to extract the existing RAM if possible. Most laptops have their RAM fixed to the motherboard permanently, so check that first. If removal isn't feasible, a dual-RAM package is likely your only choice. Good luck!
I added to both of my laptops non-matching stick, 4+16GB and 8+16GB (especially to 2nd one, there first part of ram is soldered on lg gram). I have no issue. There is no risk do damage laptop. Both sticks will work at speed of slowest one. Buy there you can return. Do memtest after installation.
