I'm struggling to understand what's happening with my system. Everything seemed normal until I upgraded my M.2 drive to a Samsung NVMe evo plus. I reinstalled Windows onto the new drive and haven't connected any other hard drives. The issue arises occasionally—my PC becomes unresponsive or slows down, especially when trying to open a task manager window. It takes around 10 seconds for it to launch, and all commands take several seconds to process. This problem lasts about five minutes before disappearing and the system returns to normal. During idle periods, my CPU usage in Windows Task Manager hits 100%, whereas programs like HWmonitor show only 30-40%. I've reset the BIOS to its default settings using the latest F14 BIOS and downloaded all drivers from the motherboard manufacturer's site. Here are my specs: Gigabyte Gaming Aurora 7, Gigabyte 2080 Ti gaming OC, 1 TB NVMe, 970 GB Nvme Samsung Evo Plus, Intel i7-8700K, stock 16 GB DDR4, 3000 MHz XMP, Corsair HX750i, Windows 10 (latest updates).

I understand it might seem simple, but attempting to boost your CPU by just a few hundredths of a gigahertz can be effective

You're starting out with overclocking! You're adjusting the multiplier and leaving other settings at their default values. That means you're only changing the CPU frequency, while keeping voltage, timings, and other parameters unchanged.

Plan the tour to adjust the frequency to 4.4ghz, then perform a complete system check using Windows Defender just in case.

It was straightforward once I rebooted with a fresh Windows install on a brand-new NVMe drive. I boosted the overclock to 4.7 across all cores. The voltage readings for VID #1 through #5 seem erratic—uncertain if this is typical behavior.

When aiming for 4.7, monitor temperatures closely, but overall it should be manageable. Voltage is the main factor influencing temperature.

The 8th generation model requires caution. Even at 100MHz it can significantly increase temperatures.
