Have trouble with 5800x leading to crashes?
Installed my Ryzen 7 5800X after upgrading from Ryzen 3 3200 during gameplay, especially in ranked matches. My PC would crash when playing titles like R6. Current specs: Ryzen 7 5800X, GTX 1650, 500W PSU, 16GB RAM, Gigabyte A320-S2H rev 1x. Cooling unit: ID-COOLING SE-914-XT-Basic. I’m unsure if RAM, motherboard, or power supply is the issue and don’t want to test everything myself.
The most annoying part is the motherboard... But maybe you should verify your temperatures?
This refers to a $30 CPU cooler, likely for a motherboard that isn't compatible with the 5800X.
No blue screens and yes, when I first inserted the CPU it wouldn’t post, so I had to update the BIOS then it worked
The CPU cooler isn’t suitable for the 5800X. I think the motherboard might be having VRM issues under load. The BIOS update supporting Ryzen 5000 doesn’t guarantee it’s a good fit for a higher power board—5600X would have been better. If you can point the fan at the VRM, you might see more details. Checking temperatures with HWINFO64 would help. Starting a Cinebench test could reveal more about the situation.
During normal operation, the program runs smoothly. However, during an OCCT test it stops abruptly.
Consider upgrading with a new motherboard and CPU cooler if you're looking to enhance your system's performance.
