Recently I had to add extra Ethernet ports to my router because it only allows one cable, which is really limiting. Since it's a free offer from the cable company, I didn’t have much choice. I ended up getting a splitter, but after some investigation I learned it doesn’t work with routers—switches are better. Now I’m asking the community for advice: my router can handle a switch or do I need a new one? Here are photos of my setup (Cisco DPC2320). Back: Spoiler Front: Spoiler Bonus: the splitter I bought Spoiler Thanks for your help! This community is awesome.

What you have is a modem, you need a dedicated router to connect to it. If you just plug a switch to it then the first device to ask for an IP address will get one and the rest will get no connectivity. What's your budget and location? Who is your ISP? Keep in mind that's a DOCSIS 2.0 modem which I'm surprised your ISP still allows on their network.

My budget in dollars would be near $20 at most. Coming from the Philippines means we struggle with internet access, and our ISP would likely be Sky Cable.

Thanks for the feedback. Your internet speed is currently limited to about 10mbps on fiber, which works well in your home size. The router appears suitable for your space. Would you like me to recommend a more affordable option under $10?

It seems the device includes wireless functionality inside the box, which might indicate it's a single unit rather than a separate modem. I checked the specifications and confirmed it is an all-in-one model. A standard switch would work fine, though I’d prefer a 5-port gigabit switch if possible—these usually cost around 100Mbps or less.
