I purchased a Ryzen 7 3800X at a discounted price. However, checking the BIOS version revealed I need the latest release, which isn't advised to install with my current core (Summit Ridge). I'm unsure whether it's better to upgrade the CPU first or install the new BIOS and then the processor. I was hoping for a safer approach. Appreciate any advice!

Set up a BIOS that accommodates both your 1600 and 3600x devices while the 1600 is active. After confirming it boots correctly, upgrade to the most recent full BIOS version for better performance.

Version 5.40 was the initial release to support gen 3, though the 3800x stands out because it references "since version 6.00," unlike other gen 3 models which are at 5.40. The issue is updating to 6.00 on my 1600—otherwise I risk breaking something. I'm currently using 5.4, which still works with other gen 3 chips, but I wonder if the Matisse family makes the 3800x stable enough for posting and upgrading to 6.0. Your thoughts are welcome, and please let me know if you're mistaken.
