Have questions about Dell returns and warranty?
I’m currently outside the US and plan to buy a Dell monitor online. There’s a promotion running, and I won’t be back for a while. A delivery person will come to collect the package when it arrives. I’m considering sending it directly to my apartment in the US, but I want to know what’s best.
If I place the order, would it be okay for someone to open the box and remove the monitor and cables? I’d prefer not to leave it in the original packaging, as cardboard attracts pests. I don’t want rodents in my place. Should I test the monitor beforehand to make sure it works?
If the box is opened and the device doesn’t function properly, I don’t want to have it returned because it would be inconvenient for them. I’d rather handle everything myself.
I’m also concerned about humidity. If I keep the box in the garage, it might be damp, which could affect the monitor. Should I discard the box if it gets damaged or smells?
Do people usually throw away cardboard boxes after buying electronics online, or do they keep them? I don’t want cardboard in my apartment because it draws pests.
If I return the item to Dell, do they still need the original packaging? And if I sell it, should I keep the box? I’d rather avoid any hassle and keep things clean.
Lastly, what’s the safest way to handle this so I don’t end up with a damaged device or a pest problem?
It's usually better to skip the purchase if you won't see it for a while. You'll likely find a better price once you're back. I usually keep the boxes for most items. I've never had any issues with that. For monitors, it's important to have the original packaging for proper protection.
