Hi there, we've just moved to a different internet provider and have run into some difficulties. Their support team didn't help much, so I'm reaching out for advice from this forum. I'm not very technical, but I understand the fundamentals. I'm struggling to identify the problem since I can only describe the symptoms.
For example, when using our smart TV connected via a cat6 cable and trying Netflix regularly, I see messages like "Netflix can't load" or "Check your connection." Usually, after a few attempts it works again and we can watch something.
With Wi-Fi, the issue is similar except I have no trouble streaming Netflix on my computer. The problem appears during gaming sessions—especially with games like Overwatch. Under normal play conditions I get around 60ms latency, but when the game lags it jumps to 350ms or more. This happens occasionally and I don’t know what’s causing it.
Interestingly, our new ISP uses the same lines as our previous provider, except for their routers. They switched those, but the cables remain the same. When downloading torrents, I sometimes see speeds of 25mb per minute, then everything freezes despite Windows showing a stable Wi-Fi connection. It restarts after a short while, often. This pattern repeats across different situations.
It seems to happen roughly every 10-15 minutes, which is noticeable and bothersome. Do anyone else experience something like this? Any insights would be really helpful—I'm getting stuck with no clear solution. Thanks in advance for your support.
Have you experimented with another DNS server? It’s possible your current provider isn’t optimal. When many DNS requests are needed, a sluggish or unstable server can cause noticeable delays.
You need to follow the steps provided and select the appropriate server for your task.
Great choice! You're using Google's DNS and planning to check it again tomorrow.
You can verify it using a Windows command prompt (type ipconfig /all) and check the DNS Servers section.
Who is your service provider? This can help clarify the issue.
