Have issues with your CPU after a broken memory module?
Hello, I'm assisting your friend with the LGA1700 socket pins on his motherboard after CPU damage. Here are some clarifying points:
1. Given the bent pins, the best option might be swapping the CPU to another motherboard. I suspect slight damage to the golden landing pads occurred during removal, as the bottom area felt uneven after wiping. Once cleaned, compare the image to your expectations of damaged pads. Could this CPU still function properly on a new board?
2. Even with a smooth bottom surface now, installing it on a new motherboard could risk pin damage. Proceed with caution and verify compatibility before mounting.
3. If the CPU is installed correctly, turning it on shouldn't harm other components or the board. However, if there are underlying issues, it might affect performance.
4. Your concern about RAM is valid—damaged pins could impact stability. Consider testing with a known-good board if possible.
5. Replacing the socket entirely is feasible, especially with a Z690 board. It may be worth exploring a refund if the fix isn't successful.
Only one way to find out, unfortunately. But unless they went full send trying to insert it, there's a chance it might be okay. I've bent pins on my old 1700 while upgrading and straightened them with a credit card. Processor ran fine. The crappy RAM was another story, as well might be the socket design you refer to.
