I own an i9900kf system with an xi code motherboard and an RTX 2080, featuring 32 GB DDR4 at 3800 MHz, paired with a 27-inch 1440p monitor at 180 Hz. I’m considering an upgrade but can only choose between a new CPU or GPU. My budget allows for either the i5 14600K or a 5060Ti or 9060XT 16 GB graphics card. Which one should I prioritize first? I mainly play casual games like Delta Force, Battlefield, and new releases, as well as do video editing.
which component should i upgrade first? Users are advised to stylize their thread with info asked of in this thread; *How to Ask for New Build or Upgrade Advice* How to Ask for New Build or Upgrade Advice First off, respect where respect is due - this is an adaptation of the Animal's *How To Ask For New Build Advice* Sticky. I created this because there's a lot of posts nowadays asking for upgrade advice both on here and on the CPU forums, and I feel... forums. and the community will chime in with worthwhile suggestions. Please list the specs to your build like so: CPU: CPU cooler: Motherboard: Ram: SSD/HDD: GPU: PSU: Chassis: OS: Monitor: include the age of the PSU apart from it's make and model. and do video editing Video editing us done a lot of app's, which one(s) are you working with?
Sorry about that.

A 9900k and a 2080 offer a solid combination, though major gains from upgrading just one component will be limited. The 5060 provides roughly a 20% improvement over the 2080, which isn't particularly impressive, but a higher-end card like the 5070 or 9070 could shift the bottleneck away from the 9900k. On the CPU front, the i5-14600 outperforms the 9900k, but the 2080 is expected to become the limiting factor. A move to a 14th generation processor would also necessitate replacing the motherboard and possibly upgrading to DDR5 RAM.
Updating an older system often demands swapping several parts, whereas changing just one part usually yields minimal performance boosts due to other constraints.
My method for tackling this ongoing issue:
Certain titles rely heavily on graphics capabilities, while others depend more on CPU performance. Multiplayer usually favors games with numerous threads.
You must determine which one suits you best.
Search for a board compatible with PCIe 5.0 to assess how the new AMD and Nvidia cards perform under this standard.
