Have i damaged my GPU?
I have an old GTX580 and I attempted a small overclock. Before adjusting my card, I was playing CSGO at 200-250 FPS and after only a short time I was down to 50-70 FPS (factory settings were restored soon after). The issue is that it never displayed any signs of damage except for the sudden drop in FPS across all games. I increased the core clock by +50 MHz and memory clock by about +100 MHz, but I never changed the core voltage. Looking at other discussions, it seems like my memory modules might be affected, possibly causing this behavior. Could this be the cause of the lower FPS? Is it something else that could be responsible?
Are you still using it? Have you attempted to remove it? Also, did you restart the computer when the slowness began?
Only changes in voltage can harm a GPU. If you didn't alter the voltages, there might be another issue. Which application were you trying to overclock?
If the memory was damaged you would notice clear signs like artifacts or crashes, not just a drop in FPS. A reduced GPU frequency usually means it’s being throttled down, often as a protective measure and can persist even after resetting. This suggests a software problem rather than a hardware one.
Thank you both very much. I first attempted uninstalling the OC software as recommended and noticed my FPS returned to normal after... It seems it was limiting my card's performance even after reset, as photonboy mentioned. I can't find a way to give you the best solution, but I appreciate your help.
