Over the last eight months I experienced random shutdowns of my PC, especially when switching between Chrome and other applications like Word or Excel. Some suggested checking the power supply unit, which turned out to be faulty. Although I investigated further, the issue persisted, so I had to find ways to manage it. Now I’m tired of the slow performance. In Task Manager I noticed memory usage at 6GB out of 8GB—despite having a 16GB RAM module installed. I examined my RAM stick and saw it was only partially seated, with the glue side hanging. The main concerns are how much this has affected the system and whether it’s fixable. Should I replace the RAM now? Which budget-friendly option (around £50) would work best for a 16GB+ module, given my specs: GeForce RTX 3050, 8GB Ryzen 7 1700, Crucial MX500 1TB, Seagate Barracuda 2TB, Corsair RM550x?

You notice just a heat spreader, no signs of damage.

It seems like a single-sided RAM module, but it appears to be improperly seated.

Ensure the heat spreader is unplugged, then everything appears fine. Replace the RAM.

I captured the photo once I removed the small clips on the side to extract the detached section.

appears the locking tabs on the RAM aren’t secured, suggesting the builder likely made a mistake. the item attached is a decorative heat spreader meant to make the RAM seem stronger or more advanced than it really is.

Take both components out and place the broken one in the first slot, then boot using just that RAM. If it fails to start, it’s definitely dead.
