Has the desktop icon on your computer become unchangeable?
Hey, I saw a strange issue on my desktop. The 'home network group' icon (I’m not sure of the exact name) won’t remove itself. I tried deleting it with the right-click and drag-and-drop into the trash. No help from Microsoft support was found, and the live chat isn’t working. I don’t want to spend any money just because this icon won’t let me fix it. -Icefly
It's somewhere in Control Panel, if I am not mistaken, as it is a system icon and there's a separate settings page for managing desktop system icons. What Windows are you using exactly?
@Icefly, did you right-click it, then open properties and go to the Details section to check the owner? Have you tried tapping the icon, holding Shift, and pressing Delete? This should permanently remove it unless you have the right access. Keep in mind, be careful—select only the relevant icon to avoid losing it from the trash.
Review the box for network confirmation. Verify if the disappearance occurred and whether a device connected to the network was turned off. Adjust settings in the Start menu, then Settings, Personalization, Themes, and the upper-right corner desktop icon preferences.
