It has only been recently... perhaps a decade or so... that 10Gb was even tested on copper. Back then, everything was optical and typically operated at a single speed, using 10Gb optics. 10Gb is now entering the consumer market mainly because the cost has fallen significantly. There aren't many practical applications for regular users, which means there isn't much conversation about it in forums. Even the 2.5G port on many devices comes with more than most people will ever need, and it seems to cost almost the same to produce a 1Gb or 2.5G Ethernet chipset.
