I didn't play both at once; I enjoy them separately. Most prefer Co-op, but I really like playing alone.

Many people claim Borderlands is a terrible single-player experience, but that's not true. You can enjoy either game solo and have a great time. Borderlands 1 is more challenging in single-player compared to Borderlands 2, though the latter shines in multiplayer. The DLC for Borderlands 2, Tiny Tina's Assault on Dragon Keep, is definitely the best I've bought. I've played both versions—both released and with my brothers in multiplayer.

Many people have mentioned it's more enjoyable to play with friends. I really liked the game and would definitely suggest it.

Its a great game for co-op as for solo its sort of boring due to repetitive mission.

This game blends first-person shooter and RPG elements, featuring a blend of psychopathic personalities that are typical in their own way, along with a diverse selection of weapons to pick from. I highly recommend it.

I’ll stand out as the dissenter here, noting that while it’s usually enjoyable during your initial run (especially with friends), it quickly becomes a massive grind focused on acquiring better weapons for another, more challenging attempt. I’ve logged around 200 hours on the Xbox version before purchasing my PC, and even then I only managed a few hours on the PC side. This doesn’t imply your sessions won’t be fun, just my perspective on the series.

I've played BL one through and stopped BL2 around 20 hours in after a short break. The game lacked engaging content when I took a break. Think of it as an Action RPG like Diablo or Torchlight, but it's a FPS with fixed levels instead of random ones. The battles feel repetitive and the ability upgrades are mostly minor stat boosts. If you like collecting loot and improving your stats, it might suit you. Some players appreciate the humor, but most found it lacking. The story isn't particularly impressive. It's more enjoyable with friends, which suggests BL2 works better that way. For around ten dollars, you could play it with friends and still have fun. The PC version runs smoothly and offers many customization options. The only drawback is the console-like user interface, which feels awkward for a PC.

I haven't tried it yet, though I did have some fun with it earlier. But it can become monotonous, as others mentioned. Also, when I pause and come back, I often feel confused and end up restarting everything. Could be a personal thing.
