I and a companion purchased a Kingston SSD with 980GB and 480GB capacities. Both units were brand new, and my machine was just a month old. It often becomes slow after a while, and the Windows installation process frequently fails. Even though I double-checked the installation steps and reformatted the drives multiple times, the issue persists.
Some suggest it might happen after installing a fresh Windows version or after downloading games, but none of these fixes have helped. You could consider treating it like a fresh install—plugging in the SSD and following standard setup—but I’m unsure if that resolves the problem.
You asked whether there’s anything specific to do during installation or if simply connecting and installing Windows is enough. Based on what I’ve tried, it seems the SSD itself might be faulty.
I also checked solutions like CHKDSK, SFC, DISM, updating drivers, changing cables, and even testing with another PC. The results were inconclusive.
My current PC uses an Intel i5 processor, a Gigabyte 2x8 HyperX 3200 chipset, and runs Windows 11. I’m using the 500GB SSD and the FSP Bronze drives (650/600). No clear answers yet.
You're unsure about your SSD model but can use disk information to identify it. Firmware updates might resolve issues or bugs, so checking Kingston's software could help.
The self diagnostics, what these tools check, is completely useless on modern SATA SSDs and virtually all NVMe SSDs. The general health status has been useless for a decade because it's up to the manufacturer how much it has to fail before the status changes. The health percentage actually isn't related to the health at all, it's how much of the warrantied writes you have used. There isn't a good way of testing an SSD that has the new terrible SMART data. You can post the SMART parameters so we can check them just in case. At the top of CDI, select Edit → Copy and paste it to a pastebin and link to it here. Note that it includes all drives when you copy, not just the selected one. Pastebin.com has started doing lots of moderation and pastes often get stuck for days so I would use a different one or make sure to check the paste before you link it. Critical_Process_Died is an issue with an OS file/process, it's often seen with storage issues.
