I’ve been relying on my old FX 8350 build for daily use for a couple of months after selling my upgraded rig to save money on travel that never came. The system has been unstable for months now, frequently crashing the second I press the keyboard. Both my own keyboards and the on-screen board have caused the same problems. I’m finished with this and want a more affordable update. I’ve figured out what parts I need, but I’m keeping the Corsair H110iGT because it’s a solid cooler. It’s designed for an AM4 board, and the plastic hold-down tabs should still fit on an AM3+ board—just make sure the alignment works. I’m aware the holes are a bit different, but since there’s no back plate and nothing else to worry about, I’m going to search online for more info.

You would likely need to install a backplate to secure the cooler properly.

It seems you've set up a cooler from an older model for your new system. Make sure the newer board has the plastic tabs installed.

It includes two clips positioned above small tabs, and two thumb screws secure and fasten it securely

Alright, that makes sense. Based on what I understand, the clip size and placement haven't shifted, so it should function properly.

It seems I’ll be pairing the MSI X470 gaming plus max, which is more than enough for my needs. I’m after dual USB 3 ports and it’s the most affordable board available with two.

I don’t see any info about them relocating, yet I’m also unsure they’re staying put.

AMD rarely releases this information openly. Appreciation for their effort in improving the old heatsink design.

They seem to be stuck, but some devices support AM3+ and AM4, making it likely they’ll work.
