So i'm thinking about trading in my old i7 4790k because my motherboard (z97) basically broke down and I don't really feel like spending 75,- on an old board like that ( Troubleshoot topic here if you have any last resort idea's! So if I I can't fix it and do have to make the jump I wanna do it right. I'm really into hardstyle production and a friend of mine has an AMD A4 socket (MSI B450 Tomahawk) board lying around with a 16GB ram stick so i'll probably get that from him. Does anyone have any experience with a good cpu? So far the I7 did alright, but I think it started to struggle a little with heavy projects. According to the websites of the DAW and I use and most plugins you don't need much to get it "running" but to actually have it processing notes and all that takes quite a lot because I'm sure an Intel Pentium III to run any of my projects. According to this Youtube Video you need good single core performance in combination with a solid amount of cores (so I guess 4 is not enough anymore) so right now the Ryzen 5 5600x was appealing but i'm not sure if that's enough.

First the B450 needs a software upgrade to run the 5600X CPU, which isn't supported by that board's generation. Updating could mean losing A4 support due to its 32nm design, and I think the 4790K would likely perform better with some optimization. Considering price, performance, and compatibility, what happens if the board fails to boot either CPU after flashing? You'd face significant issues. Instead, going with a 2600X or 2700X would give you around 7600-7700 cycles per second but fewer cores. The board is more likely to work without a flash using those chips on a B450 platform. That's a tough decision—suggesting a 5600X in a B450 with an early BIOS update isn't ideal. It probably won't boot without a flash. If you're after a B550, it might be better to upgrade to a board that matches the 5600X requirements directly. Good luck!
