Your system already uses an SSD for your frequently used programs. To make your boot drive the SSD, you can install Windows there. This way, your operating system will run from the faster storage device.

If the operating system runs on the HDD and you switch the boot drive to an SSD, the system will likely start from the SSD instead of the HDD.

It won't work because Windows isn't installed on the SSD yet. Reinstall it onto the SSD after saving your random C: files you have nearby, such as game saves and other important items.
