Hello. I'm dealing with a really annoying problem with Windows Remote Desktop Connection (RDP). Sometimes, if I scroll quickly, switch tabs too fast, or perform other intense actions like dragging windows or watching videos on the server, the connection freezes. It usually shows a "Reconnecting, attempt 1/5" message and then reconnects after about five seconds. This has been happening for about a year now, and it's really disruptive since I spend a lot of time setting up scripts to access our server. The disconnects are frustrating because they occur randomly, even though my network and OpenVPN connections look normal in logs. Other team members can use RDP without issues, except for me, which is puzzling. My PC runs Windows 10 while the server uses Windows 10, and it worked on my old machine too—so it's not an OS-related problem. This issue also happens on another desktop, so it doesn't seem to be tied to a specific user or device. I've tried checking the event logs, but nothing concrete has been found.
I understand the clarification and appreciate your effort. However, this isn't quite what you were seeking. When I mention Windows 10/11 server, that's not accurate. My system was running Windows 10, which is now outdated, while I'm currently using Windows 11, a brand new operating system with fresh hardware. Both have identical problems, so the issue isn't tied to the OS itself. They are completely different machines, apart from sharing the same router network and VPN profile. I used the same VPN profile for both, so it might be related to that. I'm not experiencing this myself—only me.
I discovered through a YouTube video that a moving text across the screen triggers the problem. This helps demonstrate how it occurs. I'm located in another building from the dedicated server in London, where I reside. I rely on an OpenVPN server running on my Windows 10 machine to bypass CALS licensing restrictions and let all users connect. Only I face this issue.
I attempted RDP using 10.24.1.1 over the VPN, which worked perfectly. The MTU settings seem correct; I suspect the problem lies elsewhere. I didn’t encounter this when working from home before becoming self-employed, unless I overlooked it. It might be a server-side issue specific to my user account, not related to the VPN file itself.
I tried accessing the server via local admin, but the problem persists. The users on the system aren't affected, so it's likely not a connection or hardware problem. It appears to be a "Too many interactions on screen, abort and freeze" error—difficult to resolve. I can send small files, but larger ones often drop or fail. This is exactly what I'm experiencing, and I'm trying to fix it tomorrow.
. He simply informed me the MTU was set wrong, and I think the maximum should be around 1500. Lowering it might help stabilize the connection.
I encountered an issue when trying to upload an image to a firewall appliance... the router's MTU value was incorrect. It wasn't my fault since it was the vendor's device
