This situation requires coordination among three machines. Machine 1 runs a 3770K built in 2012 with Windows 7 Pro, later upgraded to 10 Pro. Machine 2 is a 3rd generation i7 laptop originally with Windows 8 Home; I replaced its drive and installed 10 Pro. Machine 3 is a newer 11700K build, still without a key, currently using a temporary Windows 10 setup. Machine 1 has been difficult to start, but I plan to clone its installation onto Machine 3. Machine 2 is nonfunctional—hardly any signs of life despite possible overheating. I intend to preserve data from all three before attempting the transfer. My main goal is to restore Machine 1 as a backup without deactivating it or moving my license. Since Machine 2 is beyond repair, I’m considering using its drive on Machine 3. I attempted to locate the key through registry searches and command-line methods, but results were inconsistent. Some sources suggested using WMI or PowerShell commands, while others pointed to a registry location. Swapping the original HDD back onto Machine 1 produced the same key, though I’m unsure if Windows altered it during connection. I also explored whether activating the extracted key on Machine 3 would interfere with the cloned OS. I’m uncertain about auto-activation when both systems are online or how to safely transfer without triggering deactivation. I need guidance on whether booting the cloned version on Machine 3 will affect activation on Machine 1, and if I can proceed without first disabling the key on Machine 2’s drive. Additionally, I’m worried about compatibility if Windows detects a different hardware ID during activation. I also want to know if Microsoft can trace the original key from Machine 2 and reuse it on Machine 3, especially since both are retail keys. My priority is recovering that license before making further decisions.
