i just got a 4090 and its amazing , all my games that are on steam run insanely . however games that arent on steam , like minecraft or valorant are running at lower frames than they should be running with a 4 0 9 0 . for example, my mc without shaders runs at around 600 fps which is fine as my monitor is only 165 hz but with shaders runs below 165hz most of the time and goes slighty above at others which shouldnt be the case as i did my research and im supposed to be getting above 200fps. valorant runs around 300fps and thats odd to me too because its roughly the same fps as the 3080 i just upgraded from. im more keen to fix the mc issue so if anyone could help me find out why games outside of steam are running terribly please help me out!

Which processor are you using? Also, I appreciate your feedback on the 600 and 300 fps numbers—it’s a valid concern.

The specifications you mentioned seem appropriate. The GPU you purchased isn't compatible with your system, and your CPU is restricting performance in those games.

you assume modded Minecraft should work smoothly because it’s designed for that purpose. A quicker machine doesn’t automatically fix issues caused by the mod; performance improvements depend on how well the mod interacts with the hardware.

Thanks a lot! Are the Athena and Ryzen 7 7700X sufficient?

I was hoping Minecraft would perform smoothly since the mod profile I'm using is tailored for optimal performance. It's called fabulously optimized and fine-tunes the game for the best results. Based on the other discussions here, it seems the issue might be with my CPU rather than the GPU. I plan to upgrade my CPU, which should resolve the problem.

Valorant might have limited CPU but still runs at 300fps. People usually overlook the difference between 144hz and 360hz, let alone 300 versus 360fps. For Minecraft, check the task manager or per-core usage to see if a single core is at capacity. If not, it’s likely running near the mod’s limits.
