I'm currently playing TF2 and have Steam linked to my spam inbox. I haven't made any purchases yet, so I'm safe. The only risk I face right now is losing my current game progress.

Have there been any accounts of individuals losing funds through this? I just woke up and heard a lot of hype. Checked my PayPal (which is pre-approved) and nothing was purchased. Someone else in the discussion mentioned they couldn't alter anything. Perhaps I'm just fortunate. If they've succeeded in stopping others from using each other's money, at least it's a much smaller issue. They just need to accept that they've exposed a significant amount of private data.
