Half-Life: Decay is available for PC.
As whispers spread about a potential Steam launch, I revisited every classic Half-Life title to absorb as much background as possible. While exploring, I discovered Half-Life: Decay, whose narrative is officially recognized by Valve. Though it isn’t the standout entry in the series, it remains part of the larger Half-Life universe, and I wanted to highlight it. Developed by Gearbox alongside Valve, this official installment delves into the tale of Gina Cross (the hologram from the tutorial) and Colette Green, tasked with delivering the Yellow Crystal to Gordon Freeman in the initial test chamber of Half-Life 1. You’ll notice Gina pushing the crystal in a security camera scene while playing as Barney in Blue Shift. Reviews described it as an average experience, yet it stands out as the first fully crafted Half-Life title designed for cooperative play. PC players were barred from its console release due to licensing constraints, leading some enthusiasts to create a fan port. Apparently, Gearbox approved this unofficial version, stating no plans to mislead fans. I was thrilled to experience this lesser-known story and spent hours troubleshooting the installation.
