Hi, I made a fresh setup in March 2022. Everything else was new except the GPU stayed the same (RTX 2070). Many crashes occurred, especially in games like Minecraft without mods. I assumed it was the GPU issue and didn’t focus much on it since I don’t play often. Today I switched to a RX 6750 XT and discovered the same problems persisted across those titles. When testing with the internal GPU of the 12700k, issues continued. A friend suggested starting with a memtest86. Before even completing the first pass, I already had three errors. After two hours, the second pass finished with over 25 errors. It seems the RAM might be faulty. The new configuration includes: Asus ROG Maximus z690 Hero i7 12700k DDR5 G-Skill CAS32 6400mhz, Asus ROG Strix RTX 2070, 1000w power supply. What are your thoughts?

Check if it's running at stock speed. If it seems overclocked, set everything to full stock performance. If errors persist, it likely has faulty CPU memory controller or RAM issues.

You're referring to changing something in the BIOS settings? I've just enabled the XMP1 profile.

Turn off XMP initially and recheck. You might also restore your BIOS to the standard or default configuration, typically by pressing F7.

Enable XMP2, otherwise return it. Ensure new memory succeeds without issues.

6400MT/s on the first generation DDR5 IMC seems a bit high. I’m sure it’s been upgraded since release with BIOS updates, but I recall at launch and for about a month afterward, unless you adjusted things manually, 6000 was essentially out of the question except in a few models.

Check if an update is needed for your BIOS, then apply it. If not, proceed with XMP and see if it resolves the problem. You can also replace the RAM if necessary. Both options may help depending on the cause.

I checked the BIOS update, but the XMP issues remain unchanged. The seller offered to return the drives, and they agreed. Consider proceeding with the return if you wish.

If you need 6400, you don’t necessarily need to change your own RAM or send it back for a new one.
