Hi guys, my i5 4460 seems to be reaching its limits, so I considered upgrading it a bit from version 3.4 to something closer to 3.8 or checking if it can reach 4GHz. Back then, many H81 chips had a Z option that allowed the CPU overclock. That feature was removed, so users had to revert their motherboard BIOS to enable it again. Now I own an H81M VG4 R3.0, which is based on earlier versions like R1.0 and R2.0. Those earlier models required flashing an older BIOS from the manufacturer's support page to get the overclocking back. However, according to the BIOS support page for this model, version R3.0 only lists one BIOS option available. So I’m wondering if I can install an older H81M VG4 R2.0 BIOS onto my current R3.0 board?

You would require a K series CPU.

Even with the right BIOS and Z OC settings, if the motherboard doesn't detect a non-K CPU, the BIOS option won't appear.

This is what I remember.
Non-K OC was eliminated on Haswell (4th gen) and subsequently.
