H81 setup fails due to insufficient memory.
I recently acquired some refurbished parts to build a budget gaming PC. I got an MSI H81 gamer motherboard, an i3 4170 processor, 16GB (4x4) Corsair Vengeance 1600MHz RAM, a Corsair TX750 motherboard, and a GTX 970 graphics card. It wasn’t ideal, but it could run around $300. After installing the RAM, it wouldn’t boot at all. I’ve checked the individual RAM modules and slots, and everything functions properly—boots with two 8GB sticks. The BIOS is up to date. Could anyone suggest why this isn’t working? I know I should lower my RAM speed because the H81 only supports up to 1066MHz across all four slots, yet it still boots with the standard configuration. Thanks!
