I believe they're the least likely to fall for that old scam. We should wait and observe. If they do, it would be a prime example of why you shouldn't preorder or back early access titles. If you can't rely on Rocket and the DayZ dev team, you shouldn't trust them at all.
I understand you're not questioning my trust, but I'm pointing out that these games have had their moment, showcased quality, and often fail to deliver on their commitments. For example, the standalone took two years past its planned release date.
The issue is that it might not reach a full release. The scam carried out by certain 'developers' involves creating something impressive, taking profits, and then abandoning it. The DayZ team has earned their fortune by investing significant time and effort into the game. Most people won't return for another purchase. They can simply pause and explore other options. That's the concern.
